Since 2012, under the guidance of world-class maestros Dr Helmuth Rilling and festival director Patrick Chiu, SingFest launched a series of concerts and choral-related education programmes to wide acclaim for professional musicians, school teachers, university and secondary school students, as well as music enthusiasts
Maestro Helmuth Rilling is a world-renowned acclaimed conductor, pedagogue and Bach scholar. He is the co-founder and Artistic Director of the prestigious Oregon Bach Festival and the founder of internationally-recognised chorus – the Gächinger Kantorei and Internationale Bachakademi Stuttgart. He received the prestigious Festspielhaus Baden-Baden Herbert von Karajan Music Prize (2011)
Neo-Bach from Hong Kong
The team of 15 performers from the Hong Kong SingFest Choral Academy comprises 1 conductor, 8 singers and 6 instrumentalists. They will present a rousing concert of Bach’s music in authentic style and new compositions based on his music by Hong Kong composers.
Programme includes 1) J.S. Bach: BWV 225 Singet dem Herrn ein neues Lied (motet); 2) J.S. Bach: BWV 4 Christ lag in Todes Banden (cantata); 3) Ng Cheuk-yin: AIR [based on BWV 1068]; 4) Patrick Chiu: B.W.V. (Berlin Wall Vanished) [based on BWV 232]; 5) Alfred Wong: Andante for Bach [based on BWV 140 & 208]; and 6) Encore: J.S. Bach: BWV 230 Lobet den Herrn, alle Heide.
