R&T (Rhythm & Tempo)
Professional and active Hong Kong tap dance company founded in 2008
Aims to promote and popularise the genre in Hong Kong, increase the audience’s exposure and appreciation towards tap dance, and develop tap dance as one of the local mainstream dance forms
Organiser of Hong Kong Tap Festival since 2010, an annual event in which world-renowned tappers are invited to showcase their skills and the latest trends in tap dancing. The event broadens the horizons of audience and practitioners, and elevates the calibre of local dance productions
Festival includes workshops, sharing sessions, improvisational tap dance performance, and Beat Me Tap, the annual highlight gala performance which involves 90% of local tap dancers and tap lovers
One of the finest productions by R&T, Tap Building was performed in Hong Kong thrice, Guangzhou, Macau and at the 16th Shanghai China International Arts Festival. Far beyond the audience’s imagination, it presents new concepts and elements in tap dance. Tap Building delineates the pulse of the chaotic city’s confusing environment to the audience with inspiration and sparking resonance.
Different sceneries are used to stimulate the visual and auditory senses. A production on rhythm and movement, it depicts the essence and spirit of Hong Kong. The energetic performance also transcends above particulars on one city and provides relevance to audiences worldwide. Defying the notion that tap dance is merely entertainment, Tap Building reflects on the concept of cities which we consider as homes.
