A graduate of journalism, Wong gave up publishing to pursue a career in performing arts in mid-90s
His work B.O.B.*, commissioned by the Hong Kong Arts Festival in 2004, was developed into two different versions which toured in Europe and Asia at CND (Paris), Sadlers’ Well (London) and Hau Hebbel am Ufer (Berlin), Leuven, Warsaw, Fribourg and Singapore
In 2010, during his stint in Paris’ International Residence Programme at Recollets, Wong was invited by Cartier Fondation to present 1 + 1
In 2011, commissioned by the In Transit Festival and presented Be Me in Berlin’s Haus der Kulturen der Welt
1+1 is a collaborative performance examining cultural exchange. Each time the presenter/programmer would arrange a local dancer-performer to work with the dancer-choreographer. From knowing a name to seeing an image, meeting the real person to sharing the stage, the project chronicles and reflects on the journey of how two dancer-performers make exchange and work together. Comparison and competition, similarities and differences, manipulation and accommodation. Through interaction and improvisation within a fixed structure, the two collaborators reveal on stage a creative process in which one sees himself through the reflection of others.
1+1 has been presented in Morishita Studio (Tokyo), Cartier Fondation (Paris) and Kobe International Dance Festival.
